Brexit information

The transition period after United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union ended on 31.12.2020 and the provisions of the Withdrawal Agreement apply from 01.01.2021.
As of 01.01.2021, following provisions are applied to British citizens in Luxembourg and to Luxembourg citizens in the United Kingdom:
If you are a British citizen and were living in Luxembourg before 31.12.2020 and beyond, nothing will change for you. The EU social security coordination provisions continue to apply to the persons covered by the Withdrawal Agreement. They will continue to be entitled to family benefits if they meet the legal requirements.
The same applies to Luxembourgers who live and work in the United Kingdom as long as their situation does not change.

If you are a British citizen and would like to live and work in Luxembourg from 01.01.2021, the rules for “third “non-EU countries apply.
If you want to settle in Luxembourg coming from a “third” non-EU country, you need a residence permit. This also applies to the application for family allowances in Luxembourg.
If you are not covered by the application of the Withdrawal Agreement, national law is applicable to family benefits. The coordination of family benefits is excluded from the Trade and Cooperation Agreement.
